Keogh Plan - Private pension account plan available to self-employed individuals for saving and investing on a tax-deferred basis is known as a Keogh Plan. Generally tax deferred pension plan referred to as a Keogh Plan. Money-purchase plan is referred to as a Keogh Plan. Defined-benefit plan is also referred to as a Keogh Plan. Keogh Plan also known as a HR (10) plan. A Keogh Plan can invest in the same set of securities for a HR (10) plan, as a 401 (K) plan or an IRA plan. A Keogh Plan can invest in stocks, bonds, certificates of deposits and annuities. A Keogh Plan is known to incur administrative burdens and high upkeep costs. A Keogh Plan is known to be more costly to maintain than a Simplified Employee Pension (SEP) plan. Contribution limits are higher on a Keogh Plan, increasing their popularity. The Keogh Plan was named for U.S. Representative Eugene James Keogh of New York. A Keogh Plan is not the same as an Individual Retirement Account (IRA). A Keogh Plan is a full-fledged pension plan. There is a Keogh Plan for every employer sponsored pension plan design. An individual can have a defined benefit plan with a corporation. A self-employed individual can have a defined benefit Keogh Plan.
