Markets began the trading session in negative territory but, rebounded into positive territory during the first hour of trading, for the day. Markets held in the green zone through out the trading session amidst very light trading volume. Trading activity appeared so muted, it seemed as though today was a holiday and the markets remained open, for day traders and investors. Economic data released today did not provide any catalyst for the positive market tone and surprisingly, markets should have moved lower on the data. Crude oil ended the session slightly lower but, during the trading session, it had moved below $113 a barrel. The dollar gained strength today moving higher against the British pound, euro and the Japanese yen. Financial and energy stocks moved higher during the trading day, with investors beginning to nibble on taking positions on these recently beaten down stocks. Overall, the trading session was seriously far from day trader friendly during the ever so dull, market trading session. Nationwide foreclosure increased to 272,171 during July which results in an 8% increase from nationwide foreclosures recorded during June; the number indicates a hefty 55% surge from July 2007, according to RealtyTrac. Total number of filings includes delinquency notices, auction sale notices and bank repossessions. Bank seizures skyrocketed by 184% from a year ago to 77,295. "Bank repossessions, or REOs, continued to be the fastest-growing segment of foreclosure activity," RealtyTrac's chief executive officer, James Saccacio, said in a statement. "The sharp rise in REOs, combined with slow sales, has resulted in a bloated inventory of bank-owned properties for sale." Highest foreclosure levels were reported from Nevada, California and Florida. In the state of Nevada, one out of every 106 households filed for foreclosure. Hardest-hit metropolitan area was Cape Coral, Florida. Approximately one out of every 64 households in Cape Coral, Florida received a filing which equals seven times the national average. The median price for single-family existing homes fell 7.6% in the second quarter to $206,500 according to the National Association of Realtors (NAR).
