End of September, Third Quarter and Bond Sales are Booming...
With the sale of company debt soaring during the month of September, the month is recorded as the most-active September on record and the seventh busiest month ever for selling bonds. Nearly $143 billion in bonds. With a little more certainty than the stock market offers, investors want more yield than safe-haven Treasury bond. The average investment-grade yield of debt sold this month was 3.33%, with the average for the year at 3.9%. The average high-yield bond this month is 6.98% - dipping under the 7% level many managers used to say was the bare minimum for junk debt. The full-year average yield was 7.82%.

Is Your Furby In A Drawer or Closet and Do You Need Another One as A Holiday Gift...
Toy makers are hitting the wayback machine and going back to something that was a fad, in an attempt to revive it into upcoming holidays. 'Furby', the electronic pet first created in 1998, from Hasbro Inc. (HAS) that turned into a hit at the time. (Mine is in the closet but, like to get it out once in a while. Throw some fresh batteries in and chat away. ) After a disappointing attempt to remake the toy a few years ago, the new Furby in range of $59.99 versus the original one at $35, now comes with an LCD screen and allows you to feed it virtual sandwich and other foods from your iPad. Do you have to pay for their food? Toy companies are making their move early for the holidays. Economic uncertainty and the financial crisis in Europe on top of the U.S. presidential election - all into the upcoming holiday season... toy makers are hoping playthings that work with popular mobile devices and apps can help them attract shoppers. Entertainment-driven items are key to make the list of expected hot toys this year. It's a well known that, the holiday season has always been known for a make or break period for toymakers bottom line. However, toys are also just as crucial a category for retailers including Target Corp. (TGT), Toys “R” Us Inc. and Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (WMT) as these chains use toys historically as so-called loss leaders to lure consumers into their doors to buy other things. Lego is heavily expanding its building sets for girls. A Lego spokeswoman said Lego sales to girls rose to 30% of the private company’s total sales in the U.S. from 10% before its introduction of Lego Friends girls line in January, In another bid to drive traffic to its stores, Toys “R” Us will allow shoppers to make a reservation on 50 hot toys in person. Sears Holdings Corp.’s Kmart, Toys "R" Us and Wal-Mart have either lowered or waived layaway fees to get consumers to think about starting to shop early. With the early layaway push, its likely popular toys may run out of stock earlier in the holiday season.

Post-Crisis Dodd-Frank Act Vacated by U.S. District Court...

The U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia sent the regulation back to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission - limit speculative trading in the commodities market - arguing that the agency "fundamentally misunderstood" the ambiguities in the statute. During October, a divided CFTC in October approved rules limiting the number of commodity contracts that any investor can hold in agriculture, energy or metals contracts. CFTC chief Gary Gensler said he was disappointed by the ruling. The CFTC is "considering" ways to proceed. "I believe it is critically important that these position limits be established as Congress required," Gensler said. The Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association and the International Swaps and Derivatives Association, filed a joint lawsuit December against the CFTC seeking to throw out the rule. "The position limits rule would adversely impact commodities markets and market participants, including end-users, by reducing liquidity and increasing price volatility," ISDA said in a statement.

U.K.'s AAA Rating Affirmed, Negative Outlook Issued by Finch...
Last Friday, Fitch Ratings affirmed the United Kingdoms triple-A sovereign rating. Fitch also warned of the likelihood of a downgrade has increased, due to its sizeable budget deficit. "The UK's AAA rating is underpinned by a high-income, diversified and flexible economy as well as robust institutions and a high degree of political and social stability," said Fitch in a statement, adding that the risk of a fiscal financing crisis is negligible. Fitch said weaker-than-expected growth and fiscal output this year have increased pressure on the country's rating.
