Fed Ex Shipping
Fed Ex Shipping Company raised its
quarterly and yearly outlook, giving stocks a boost this morning. Fed Ex is
expecting to see profits between $1.05 and $1.25 per share, upwardly revised
from the $0.85 to $1.05 per share they were expecting to earn. The Delivery
giant said they raised their outlooks due to a higher demand for ground express
deliveries. Not only does the company see the
quarter looking better than expected, they also raised their yearly outlook. Fed
Ex said over the year they expect to earn between $4.60 and $5.20 per share,
previous estimates were $4.40 to $5.00 per share. Fed Ex is look at as a gauge
of economic activity; typically when companies such as Fed Ex and UPS raise
outlooks, it shows a higher demand for shipping which means more people are
buying. Fed ex expects to see the economy, along with the global economy
continue to recover throughout the year. FedEx chief financial officer Alan
Graf, said in a statement, "Our revenue and earnings growth are exceeding
original expectations, primarily due to better-than-expected growth in FedEx
Express and FedEx Ground volumes." Today's report on new home sales had
investors pleased. It was reported that new home sales rose to a seasonally
adjusted annual unit rate of 330,000 in June, a much needed improvement from a
reading of 267,000 in May. June's reading topped analysts' expectations of a
rise to 310,000. Stocks rose on the news in the morning part of the session, but
in afternoon trading stocks started falling. The Dow went from a gain of over 70
points, to a gain of 50 points with just over an hour left in the session.
Investors will be tuning into this week's earnings to see where the economy is
at and where it could be heading. At the end of the trading session, Commodity
prices were mixed; gold fell $4.70 to $1,183.00 and crude oil was unchanged at
