Jeannie gets into the basics on how to become a Professional Day Trader
Daily Market Commentary for May 7, 2008

National Financial Partners

The negative market tone began during the early morning session and slowly increased the momentum to the downside, as the trading day moved on. At the closing bell, the major indices closed at or near their session lows with the DOW and NYSE posting triple digit losses, on the day. Economic data released today gave an ever so slightly suggestion that the economy may not be as bad as previously thought. However, not to get anyone's hopes up because overall, the economy remains in a very fragile condition. The markets saw a wide range sell off from financial stocks after word came out today that the SEC is pushing for more disclosure. S&P 500 broke the key support range of 1500 amidst the selloff, this afternoon. Crude Oil continues to hold onto the spot light as the per barrel surging price continues setting new record highs. Today, Crude surpassed the $123 per barrel figure and average price per gallon of gas here in Southwestern PA is at $3.65 a gallon.

Todays top stock pick for the trading session is National Financial Partners Corporation (NYSE: NFP) which posted a loss on the trading day of over 18% to lose over 5 points by the closing bell. Net income was higher than last year same time period but, earnings per share did not meet analysis expectations, creating the down hill slide.  Its not totally out of the question for a rebound to take place, during up coming trading sessions. Jessica Bibliowicz, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of NFP said, "We are pleased with the first quarter results. While improvement occurred across our business lines, revenue growth slowed in the latter portion of the first quarter as certain components of our business were impacted by broad economic and credit market conditions. We believe the scale and broad distribution reach of the NFP network and the alignment of principals and shareholders that is unique to our model will generate strong long-term growth. While short-term results may be volatile, we expect to achieve 'same store' revenue growth in the high single-digits over the long-term."

At the closing bell on the Stock Exchange, here is how the major world indices and major U.S. indices ended the session on the U.S. Markets:

DOW (Dow Jones Industrial Average) triple digit loss of 206.48 points on the day to end the session at 12,814.35
