Daily Market Commentary for November 11, 2009
 |
Stock Prices
Stock prices were continuing their climb today,
after reaching record highs of the year this week. Investor's got the confidence
boost they needed yesterday when the Federal Reserve announced that recovery was
going to be a slow process, they decided to keep interest rates low. Investors
have pushed the Dow Jones to new highs for 2009, it reached the 10,200 level two
days in a row despite the fact that the unemployment rate is continuing to
climb, however stock prices have really taken off, analysts believe the recent
rise in stocks is partially due to investors trying to give the weakened economy
a hand. They believe that if some key reports this week show numbers we weren't
expecting, the rallies could be put on hold. Federal Reserve's decision to keep
interest rates low has continued to hurt the dollar which has been weakening
over the past couple of months. As a result of the dollar falling, gold prices
have advanced to record highs, at the end of the trading session yesterday gold
closed at $1,102.50 an ounce. Investors have been focusing their attention on
corporate earnings reports, Macy's boosted it's full-year forecast, Macy's
reported this morning that it expects 2009 earnings to be between $1.01
and $1.06 per share. U.S. government bond markets are closed for Veterans Day,
the dollar was mixed against other currencies in the trading session today.
Crude oil rose today along with gold which continued its climb through the
afternoon, it's price at the end of the day was at$1,114.50.
