Verizon

Verizon (VZ) reported third-quarter earnings fell but still pushed past analysts' estimates, also the number of new subscribers rose more than expected, pushing shares up $0.14 to $28.99. Verizon Communications posted a third quarter profit that fell more than 9%, profit fell to $2.89 billion, or 41 cents per share, from $3.2 billion, or 59 cents a share, during the same quarter last year. Verizon Wireless reportedly lost some of it's customers due to AT&T (T) being the exclusive provider for Apple's (AAPL) new iPhone, however the company did pick up 1.2 million new customer slightly above the 1 million customers analysts' expected. Verizon did add 191,000 FiOS television customers during the quarter, bringing its number of customers to 2.7 million. AT&T's iPhone brought the company a reported 2 million new customers, Verizon is working with Dell to creat a phone similar to the iPhone. Verizon Chief Executive Ivan Seidenberg said that the company would improve with the economy. Stocks rose early in the trading session Monday following triple digit losses on Friday, traders are anxious and hopeful that corporate earnings reports would continue to improve. Many investors will be waiting to see if consumer spending is rising at all when companies like Visa and Proctor & Gamble release 3Q earrings this week. As stocks fell in the afternoon session, crude oil fell along with gold as the dollar started to strengthen. Bond prices fell, the yield on the benchmark 10-year Treasury note rose to 3.57 from 3.49 Friday.

September Resources Output rose 0.2% month over month; fell 2.4% year over year; September Machinery Output fell 1.8% month over month; fell 25.1% year over year; September Steel Output rose 1.3% month over month; fell 31.4% year over year; September Regional Auto Output rose 5.5% month over month; fell 16.3% year over year; September Midwest Manufacturing Index rose 1.0% on month; fell 15.7% on year; September NAI 3-Month Moving Average fell 0.63 versus August decrease by 0.96; September National Activity Index fell 0.81 versus August decrease by 0.65.

Dallas Fed Data:
October Manufacturing Production Index fell 8.0 versus September decrease by 0.5; October Business Activity fell 3.3 versus September decrease by 6.4.

FDIC [Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation] Chairman Sheila C. Bair:
FDIC will remain cash positive if banks prepay assessments; FDIC would back not making inspector general reviews public; Bi-partisan support building for 'too-big-too-fail' regulations.
